These were the first Games, Winter or Summer, to use the Olympic Rings on the official poster, AND on the official poster stamps.
The rings had been created and designated official Olympic symbols in 1912, but did not gain popularity until the 1930's.

The following poster stamps were issued for the 1928 Winter Games:

ERROR IN DUBOIS?

DuBois #1945-W-5

10/16/16 - Steve Greiczek sent these images of pages from the 1980 Editions Pén "Catalogue Des Vignettes Suisses De Propagande Et Commémoratives: Katalog der Schweizer Werbe- und Erinnerungsvignetten : 1878 - 1980" showing this stamp (S.173), and attributing it to 1928.

DuBois lists it as a 1948 St Moritz issue (1948-W-5).

To me the design looks more like the other 1948 issues, but I am listing it here as well.

Can anyone resolve this conflict?

10/21/16 - Philippe Pavard offered this comment:

- 1928: not in Trory, not in Rampacher and not in Dubois
- 1948: in Rampacher, in Dubois
- 1948-W5 and W6: same designs, same 2 flags
My opinion: 1948

I agree. Anyone else?

There were no postage stamps issued for the 1928 Winter Games
