	Date: 1972-01-12 Air Env - 6 k blue ind of no rail interest; cachet with image of funicular railway in Sochi Sochi, a seaport, and health resort city in the Russian Riviera on the northeastern shore of the Black Sea, is famous for its two funiculars. The one shown on the envelope goes up to the Voroshilov Sanatorium. It was built in 1930, and is still in operation. Here is a page with statistics about it. WS

	Date: 1975-08-27 PPC - 1975 - 3 k black ind of no rail interest; picture side shows Smolensk railway station "вокзал" = Train station Smolensk is about 200 miles east-southeast of Moscow, on the Dnieper River. With a 2000 population of about 320,000, it is the largest city in a primarily agricultural region near the border with Belarus. One of the oldest cities in Russia, it has a history of invasion and heroics. DL

	Date: 1976-07-28 - work train on the BAM Air Env - 6 k blue ind of no rail interest; cachet with train, track laying "On-site, Ust'-Kut to Zvezdniy, BAM" (Baikal-Amur Railroad, usually called the Baikal-Amur Mainline). Built primarily during the period 1974-1989, and designated "complete" several times, most recently in November, 2003, the BAM was hailed as the greatest railroad project of all time. There have been some efforts in post- Soviet Russia to revive it, mainly for military reasons, but the future of the endeavor is currently uncertain. DL
