(click on any image for an enlarged view in a separate window.)

In 1892 the Santiago Post Office issued a postal card which contained a train as part of its logo. It can be found in Higgins & Gage in the "D" (Official) part of the Chile listing.

For Official use only, by the Santiago Post Office, hence no denomination.

All are single cards, blank on reverse.

Thanks to Ross Towle of San Francisco for the images and information

I e-mailed Jamie Carvaly at Classic Philatelics, publishers of the Higgins & Gage catalog, and the best source for philatelic stationery I know of, to see if she could add anything to the above (I sent her a scan of the first item at left), and she replied as follows:

The "D" stands for official which is why there is no face value or cost. This stationery was used for governmental purposes. The scan appears to be D11 issued in 1892 with black print on yellow paper. The others with similar stamp design & logo are numbers D6-10 & D12. All are black print on different paper colors. The cards are scarce due to printing quantities of 300 for all except D12 which only had 150 printed.

Thanks, Jamie.
