PC - 1890's - H&G 17v10 - streetcar and tracks, Budapest

The "v10" in the H&G number means this is one of at least 10 issued in its series.

KD adds
The first Hungary items were issued as both 2 and 5 crowns values in 1896. This applies to the tramcar in Budapest already included in your listing

TG

PC- 1985 - 2 Ft ind. - cachet with silhouette of steam loco and tender, Railwaymen's Day

ATA HB entry:

MiP337 7/12/85 2 Ft Postal card - imprinted stamp indicium has portrait of Gábor Baross (1848-1892), postal administrator; Minister of Commerce & Communication; organizer of Hungarian State Railways (MAV) & unified Austro-Hungarian railroad system (see #3149/50)

PC - 1985 - 2 Ft ind, cachet with images of four locomotives of various types, map of route from Kassa to Miskolc - 125th anniv. of that route?

TG adds - "Indeed it is the 125th anniversary of Kassa - Miskolc Railway. Note however that Kassa is now in Slovakia and is called Ko?ice."

KD - James Watt on the imprinted 2 Forint stamp and his steam engine issued 18 Sep 1986

PC - 1986 (?) - 2 Forint - 'Greetings from Budapest' in Hungarian, German, English & Russian
Shows Buda Hill funicular railway

KD - I think the railway reopened in 1986 so the card probably dates from just after that date

1987 - 2 Ft ind. and cachet - Centenary of Budapest Local Railways [HÉV = (Budapesti) helyiérdekü vasutak]. The station shown in outline is Szentendre and the indicium shows one of the suburban electric trains which run out there from Budapest. Cachet shows an old tram locomotive and carriages that have been preserved (see photo at left). (Szentendre means St. Andrew.)

TG

PC - 1987 - 2 Ft ind., cachet with electric streetcar, 100th anniversary of Electric trains

TG - Centenary of Budapest Electric Railway. I am guessing here but I think BKV in the indicium must stand for Budapest Kerepes Vasút (i.e. Budapest - Kerepes Railway, about 16 km.). (My book on Hungarian Railways gives BKV = Balatonszentgyörgy-Keszthelyi Vasút, but this makes no sense whatsoever in the present context.)

PC - 1988 - 2 Ft ind. with portrait of Saxlehner Andras, 125th anniv. of Health Spa at Gyogyvizek, cachet with view of steam train approaching spa.

PPC - 1990 (?) - 3 Ft ind. with map of Hungary, photo on reverse incl. Narrow gauge train at Veröcemaros, which is on the Danube, north of Budapest, on the famous 'Danube Bend.'. Ref MT. - 121/901.

CP

PPC - 1990 (?) - 3 Ft ind. with map of Hungary, photo on reverse : "Greetings from Szilvásvárad." Miniature train in park at Szilvásvárad, which is about midway between Eger and Putnok. (Note that the final three letters - "ról" - are merely an inflexion.) Ref OT. 132/901.

TG

PPC - 1990 (?)
KD - 7 shows the Directing and Computer Centre of the Hungarian State Railways in Zahony (described in English, Russian & Hungarian on the reverse)

PPC - 1990 (?)
KD - 6 shows another tourist forest railway

PPC - 1990 (?)
KD - 3 Forint card narrow gauge steam train from Balatonfenyves - much of this system closed in 2003 because of the poor state of the track, and the steam loco no longer operates

PPC - 1990 (?)
KD - forest railway at Nagyborzsony

PPC - 1991 (?) - 5 Ft ind. with map of Hungary, photo on reverse incl. Narrow gauge train at Mátrafüred, which is 80 km. N.E. of Budapest in the Mátra Mountains. (fürdo means a bath so I guess füred means baths or a spa, as in Balatonfüred.) Ref MT. 27/911.

TG

PPC - 1991 (?)
KD - 5 Forint card tourist railway in Gyongyos

PC - 1991 - 7 Ft ind. with early mail car, cachet with early steam train, 100 years of Postal Mail Train(?).

TG - The inscription here (100 ÉVES VONAT) means "The 100 Year Old Train" (nothing to do with railway mail). The loco is 4-4-0 No. 269 class Ia (later MÁV class 220) of 1881. I know that makes it 110 years old, but the information is correct. I have a little booklet about it - see scan at left.

PC - 10 Ft - 1993 - cachet with view of interior of railway mail car, 125 years of railway mail in Hungary

PC - 1994 - 12 Ft ind. with silhouette of railcar and other transport vehicles - International Day of Customs (?!)

PC - 1994 - 12 Ft ind. with emblem of Temafila '94, reverse with reproductions of thematic stamps, incl. Scott 788

PC - 1995 - 14 Ft ind, cachet with image of steam train pulling into station, people on platform, 100th anniv. of film industry (Lumiere - "The Arrival of the Train")

PC - 1995 - 14 Ft ind with lead car of Budapest metro train - 25th anniv. Budapest metro

PC - 1995 - 14 Ft ind with star against globe(?) - International Railroader Esperanto Congress (!?)

PC -1996 - 17 Ft ind, cachet incl. early steam locomotive, 100th anniv of Hungarian Agricultural Museum

KD - Then a challenge to one of the Hungary items shown - one card marks the Agricultural Museum in Budapest and it is described as showing a steam locomotive on the left hand cachet. I don't believe it is a railway locomotive, but a stationary steam threshing engine. I have been to the museum and it has no railway connections at all.

PC - 1996 - 24 Ft ind. with portrait of Kalman Kando, 1869-1931, designer of electric locomotives & electric railways; design of electric locomotive behind protrait; 100th anniv. Kalman Kando Technical Academy
