PC - 1959 - 40 gr ind of no rail interest, photo of refinery (?) with ore cars (?)

DL

PCs - 1960 - 40 gr inds of no rail interest, view = street scene Gdansk with trolley (?)

DL

1963 - I think the best translation is "Warsaw Link Railway," (Literally it is Warsaw Cross Town Line) connecting east and west. The stations shown on the cards, from east to west are: Ochota, Srodmiescie, Powisle, Stadion (Stadium)
I think my heading "Warsaw Metropolitan Railway" (written many years ago) may be rather misleading. The word "srednicowa" means diameter.

TG

PC - 1965 - 40 gr ind of no rail interest, Cachet of Katowice interchange with light rail system (?)

DL

PC - 1967 - 40 gr indicium with silhouettes of electric trains

(TG: By the way, the inscription on this card (DZIEN KOLEJARZA) means Railwaymen's Day (1967). The electric locomotives are Bo-Bo type 4E and Co-Co type 3E/1.)

1967 - "Inauguration of Cross-Town Line for long distance trains, PKP (Polish State Railways) May, 1967"

TG

1968 - 50th Anniversary of formation of Polish Railwaymen's Union, 1918-1968. Design: Type 4E electric locomotive.

TG

PC - 1971 - 40 gr ind with factory worker in foreground, train and factory in background

DL

1972 - 50th Anniversary of the International Railway Union (UIC), 1972

TG

1973 - 75th Anniversary of death of Casimir Gzowski 1898-1973. Emigrated to Canada where he built railways.

TG

1974 - Inauguration of Train Ferry between Swinoujscie and Ystad (Sweden), 1974. Design Train Ferry "N. Kopernikus."

TG

1976 -

TG: The design is an eight-axle wagon for molten steel.

M.S.: Text means "Huta Katowice - first steel for country in 1976." Katowice is a highly industrialized city of Poland of over 250000 population. In 1976, Poland was a communist state. Shortly after Stalin died, 1953, Katowice became Stalinograd, until 1956, and then Katowice again, when Stalin was downgraded by Khrushchev.

W.S.: The factory named "Huta Katowice" was founded by the Polish government in 1974 to produce rolled steel, so apparently it started production in 1976, and this card celebrated that. One of its main products was steel rails for railroads, so that helps explain the image.

TG:As for EDYTA, I thought it might be a mnemonic for something but I have come to the conclusion it is the Polish equivalent for Edith!

1980 - "35th Anniversary of the Liberation of Warsaw." (1945-1980). In the indicium is a map of Warsaw showing railway lines. To the left is the monument to the Liberation.

TG

1980 - Railway wagon construction symposium, Warsaw, 1980. (Added cachet I think because there were 3000 done out of a total printing of 6,000,000)

TG

1981 - The former narrow gauge "City Railway" station, Wilanowsky, Warsaw, 1981.

TG

DL

1986 - 50th anniversary of Grochow Locomotive Works, Warsaw, 1986 (added cachet shows emus)

TG

(If you are American, and not a true train buff, like me, you may wonder where the birds are - among rail enthusiasts in the UK, "emu" stands for "Electrical Multiple Unit", an electrical railway car of the sort used in most subway systems.

PC - 1986 - 5 Zt indicium with electric train, commemorates Roman Podoski, pioneer of electric train in Poland

(TG: Your second entry commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the Pruszkow-Warsaw-Otwock railway.)
