AJCB:

There are five postcards issued by the Transvaal Post Office for use by the
Nederlandsche Zuid Afrikaansche Spoorweg Maatschappij (NZASM or ZASM)
(i.e. the Dutch South African Railway Company).
These postcards served as announcement for the arrival of goods, the cost thereof and as receipt of these goods.

The first issue was in July 1891 (red), the second issue in January 1893 (red),
the third issue in January 1896 (green) and the fourth July 1897 (green).
These four issues were all printed by Joh. Enschede (Holland).

The fifth card (not shown below) was printed in black and white and produced locally.
Apparently two printings were done, in March 1896 and May 1896.
The text was exactly the same as the other cards although the letter type (font) was much bolder.

All these cards were known as 'Model No.72'.

In 1891 the NZASM Introduced the first Notice-postcard for the arrival of goods. The printer, Joh. Enschede in Holland, delivered on 14 August 1891 a total of 10,000 of these cards. They have a 1 penny face-value and are of the 'Vurtheim' type.

The second batch of 10,000 cards followed on 7 March 1893 from the same printer.

An additional 25,000 cards were supplied to the Z.A.R. on 19 October 1893. The latter had the same 'Jan.1893' text as the previous batch. They were printed in red in sheets of 20.

Due to a postal rate decrease the next Notice-cards were printed in green with a 1/2 penny face-value. Joh. Enschede supplied 100,000 of these cards on 12 February 1896. The date 'Jan.1896' on this card ia incorrect. These are of the 'disselboom' type.

The second batch of green 1/2 penny cards was delivered on 5 October 1897, also a quantity of 100,000. This batch of postcards was made in sheets of 32; the frontside also has the additional text "Uitsluitend voor het Binnenlandsch Verkeer"
