	Date: 1978-07-24 Air Env - 1978 - 6k ind with no rail interest; cachet with Lazarevskoe train station, Sochi, train emerging from "C" This looks nothing like the current central station in Sochi, nor can I find any reference to Lazarevskoe Station on the Internet; however, there is reference to a Lazarevskoe District of Sochi, so perhaps there is/was a station there. 3/18/4 - Vadim Lapin solved the mystery - I asked him where this station is, and he replied Lazarevskoe is a resort district near Sochi. The station is called Lazarevskaya. It belongs to the North Caucasian railroad and is located between Sochi and Tuapse. See zone 6 (green) on this picture Thanks, Vadim. I sent this information to Keith Downing, who had shared my puzzlement, and he found the card shown at the bottom at left: I see it now, quite a few stops away from Sochi. I must admit I'd only looked at stations closer to Sochi, it's actually 51km away from the main Sochi station. See attached scan of pre-stamped postcard ref 31.08.82. The text on back clearly says 'Sochi. Lazarevskoe Railway Station' - machine postmark is of Sochi Case closed. Thanks, Keith. DL

According to this page - IVANOVO is quite a big city (450 thousand inhabitants), located between Suzdal (70 kilometers to the south) and Kostroma. Ivanovo is a real Russian industrial city: grey residential buildings, dirty streets, polluted atmosphere, relics of the Soviet times kept intact. Perhaps, you will be happy just to go through this city, but it will be the most interesting stop along the Golden Ring if you want to get the taste of 'industrial' Russian province DL
