Poster Stamps for International Esperanto Congresses

Esperanto poster stamp for 1913 International Congress

Esperanto spread around the world from its inception in 1887, until by 1905 there were enough speakers of the language to justify a world congress. Since then, except during World Wars I and II, there have been such international meetings every year.

Poster stamps have been issued for most of these events.

2014 will be the 99th World Esperanto Congress, in Buenos Aires, from July 26 through August 2.

The first Esperanto poster stamp I know of is dated 1905, the year of the first World Congress. (see below)

Below is a table (thanks, Wikipedia) listing the Esperanto World Congresses, with examples of poster stamps for each year, where known. Click on any image for an enlarged version in a separate window/tab.

IF you can add to this listing, please send images to

No apparent connection with the congress, but this is the only Esperanto stamp I have seen from 1905 - indeed, it is the earliest Esperanto stamp I have seen.
