Jindrich Vanicek (January 1, 1862, Prague, June 1, 1934) was a Czech
lawyer and Sokol official. From 1892-1930 he was Chief of the Czech Sokol community.
He prepared and led six Sokol festivals. He devoted himself to fencing,
boxing, rowing and other sports. After the establishment of the Czechoslovak
Republic, he worked as head of the education department of the
Ministry of National Defense, and with Josef Scheiner in June 1919 he
organized the armed support of Slovakia against the Hungarians. He had
great authority, he was appreciated for a dedicated, enthusiastic and
honest work for both Sokola and the nation.
