POSTER STAMPS - Fund-raising for club-house/gym (Sokolovna) at Třebíč

Sokol Trebíc 1946-1950 - efforts for a new sokolovna

Because the old Sokol gymnastics facility dating back to 1892 did not suit the group, and the club had no stadium, efforts were made to resolve both issues. A new stadium was built and put into operation in 1933, but the new gym (sokolovna) remained at the design stage. In 1946, red stickers were printed on white or yellow paper with two designs in blocks of 10. Fund-raising proceeded with sale of these labels and other efforts, but the Communist takeover in 1948 put an end to Sokol activity and the new gym was not built.

SOKOL HRANIČÁŘŮM

(LARGE: 90x40mm = 3.54x1.6")

According to Sokol maven Štefan Šuták of Chomutov, Czech Republic,
this stamp was a charity label issued to raise funds in support of
Sokol clubs in border areas where clubs could not get enough members to be self-sustaining.
The 1946 year date is based on his research, but unverified.
